Greetings and welcome to Teach42! My name is Steve Dembo and I am your humble host here. While I created this blog to support my own professional learning, I’ve found immense benefits to sharing the journey. I am passionate about finding ways for schools to adapt to the 21st century and learning how to leverage new technologies to improve learning in the classroom. On this blog, I share my discoveries, ideas, musings and failures, all of which I consider to be learning experiences. While I am the primary author of this blog, I consider every reader and commenter a shareholder. Every comment adds value, both to my own personal learning as well as to all current and future readers of Teach42.com.
As a former kindergarten teacher, I am a firm believer in the power of both play and authentic experiences. I believe learning is an active process, both for children and adults. This is why so many of my experiences with technology begin with play, which then leads to professional applications. From auditioning unusual Web 2.0 applications to finding educational uses for gaming devices, I believe our only true boundaries are own imagination. And I have a very active imagination!
I currently work for Discovery Education, serving as the Online Community Manager for the Discovery Educator Network. I present frequently at EdTech conferences and been the keynote presenter at PETE&C, TRETC, the Maryland K12 Libraries Conference and the Connecting & Learning Conference. I have also been featured at numerous other conferences including MACUL, METC, FETC, Tech Forum, GaETC and the DEN National Leadership Conference. I have conducted hundreds of virtual presentations for Discovery Education and host the EdTechConnect and Discovery Connect monthly webinar series. I live in Chicago, IL with my wife @jdembo and son Aiden Lefty Dembo.
