<description>[...] Day 26: Tag, you’re it. &#8230; in searches. One last related tip. Not all blog engines do have a way to add tags to a post. If not, that’s ok. <description>I have used tags since I started blogging last summer, thought I sometimes still forget to add them. I&#039;m getting better at it and this challenge confirms what I was already starting to do...add tags on related topics (i.e. social networking gets tagged with Facebook, etc.). Sue&#039;s comment is helpful too. I think the Tecnorati tags might have been too much for me.

<description>Every time I think about tagging with the word technorati added in it gives me a headache (which is bad &#039;cause I already have one). So lets hope this makes sense.

There is a difference between adding tags to your blog post and use of good tags to make your post more visible in technorati. In effect they are two totally different issues and topics.

Tags and categories on blogs are about making it easier to find posts on your site plus also give the reader an indication of what you write about. Provided your tagging is good your reader can locate the most appropriate information better than using the search widget.

As Sean points out use of good tags is often important to the blogger for helping them find their own posts. Unfortunately I often find I have to go back through my posts and add newer tags to them.

When it comes to tagging for Technorati we are really talking about Search Engine optimization -- which is totally different. Technorati searches for the keywords within the title and text of the blog post. You don&#039;t necessarily need to have the post tagged with to be picked up by technorati or Google Blog Search.

The key for these search engines is to use a variation of the different keywords within the body of your posts. For example for mlearning you would use mobile learning, m-learning and mlearning. Interestingly enough technorati doesn&#039;t recognise m-learning as a search term while Google Blog search does.

The key is to learn how these search engines work; but not to compromise your posts too much when making it more findable.

In most situations I would NOT recommend that people add Technorati tags into their posts.

Lets hope your readers don&#039;t vote on if you have mentioned Sue Waters too much :)

<description>Very good... and foundational post. In fact, I worked on this with a group of three nascent student bloggers today after school for an hour. Early out, right?

On a personal note, since using Delicious, I have turned my brain toward using tags to nail down sites I have saved. Therefore, the tag cloud on the sidebar of my blog is not only a place or visitors, but a vehicle for finding my OWN posts when trying to find one from a remote location in a hurry.

You&#039;re it. Good weekend all.
