Poll Everywhere is looking for some Pilots. Interested?
I wrote about Poll Everywhere recently, one of the more interesting Web 2.0 sites I’ve seen in a while with HUGE potential for education. In case you forgot, Poll Everywhere allows you to create polls online that people can respond to with either a cell phone via text message, or via a web based form. The results can be viewed on the web as well as embedded into PowerPoint presentations.
Well, the brains behind it are seriously considering trying to tailor it more to educators needs and are looking for some people who are willing to pilot it and provide them with feedback. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some hands on time with what I think is a service that will seriously challenge the current crop of classroom response systems.
If you’re interested, leave a comment here and I’ll forward your information to them. Please keep in mind though, and I hope this is common sense, in order to pilot this in a classroom, you DO need to be able to use cell phones on school grounds! If cell phones are completely banned at your school, please don’t respond. But if you’ve got a forward thinking administration that’s interested in pushing the boundaries a little bit and seeing what’s possible, here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor and to help them mold their application into something that would be really useful to schools.

Steve – If you want to hook an administrator up I’ll see if I can’t get some of my teachers using.

I work for the same digital school as Melissa V above as an AYP Math coach. I think this polling would work well when working with students on questions and answers that have been on old proficiency tests.

If they’re still looking for people to try this out, I’d like to give it a shot. I know our school just purchased one student response system as a pilot and it would be interesting to see if this could be a viable alternative.
I teach technology and social studies to 6th graders.

We’ve got instructors using PRS now who may be interested. I also have a group of 10 who are doing paper-based peer evaluations, if you think this may work. They basically have a list of 20 students who each get a number score in 3 areas.

That definitely looks cool, but unfortunately cell phones are taboo in my school. No can do.
However, I did play around with it a bit and I figured out how to embed the results of the poll into a website. If anyone’s interested, I wrote up a short tutorial – http://www.teachbabel.com/bloggin/poll-everywhere.html
Good luck to those with enlightened administrators.
