This new theme is SoDelicious

01

I’ve had a couple people email me asking about the new theme. Personally, I’m really thrilled with it. The theme is called SoDelicious 2.0, and this is the Green version of it. It’s clean, it’s sleek, it has a huge amount of space for sidebar widgets, without sacrificing space for the primary posts. It also has that area in the header that rotates through photos, although I’m thinking that it might be a little big for the theme. I might try to see if I can shrink that down a touch.

The other thing that I really like about it is the fact that next to every post, there’s direct links to del.icio.us, digg, StumbleUpon and Technorati. The links are there, but they’re nice and subtle.

Speaking of subtle, another aspect of the theme that I’m a big fan of is the way the sidebars work. It looks like their’s just one or two, but there’s actually three. They’re all on the right hand side of the blog. There’s one sidebar on the left half, one on the right half, and then the third appears below them and it’s the full width of the right column. Since I hate the Twitter widget being too thin, I moved that to the third column and let it be the full width of the other two columns combined. Slick!

One other note. Besides my link to Bluehost, this blog has always been ad-free. I’ve started thinking about whether I’m being foolish by doing this. There are plenty of other educators that have Google Ads on their site. This theme supports Google ads in three locations: 1) In the footer 2) in the Welcome box at the top and 3) Just below the first post. Yesterday I turned on Google Ads in the footer. I’m debating whether to turn them on in the other two locations.

What are your thoughts about it? Am I worrying needlessly? Will that bug you to have the ads there? Do you even care at all? Let me know what you think!

Like the the theme. Really like the two columns going to a double wide. Although the Twitter is blank do to Access Denied filter.

The sidebars do extend quite a long way down the page in my browser (Firefox). If you have Google Ads I wouldn’t see them down there 1) because I would have to scroll so far and 2) I have Adblock Plus extension.

I do appreciate the wider main column as it makes for easier reading than blogs with a skinnier main column.
