Podcast: All a’Twitter about Second Life

Can you guess what’s on my mind in this podcast? That’s right, the two hottest buzzwords in the EdTech community right now. Twitter and Second Life. I’m about as bullish on Twitter as you can get, and I’m really starting to sink my teeth into SL now. On the verge of being a land owner too, thanks to some guidance from Kevin Jarrett (KJ Hax) and Fleet Goldenberg. As to Twitter, I was blown away by reading this blog post by Rob Wall. Just read through that one before you ask me again what the point of Twitter is. I’m still not sure of the answer, but I’m pretty darn certain that it has a point! Heh, that’s some improvement at least :)

Enjoy the show!

Steve - great podcast, great ideas, great enthusiasm! Clare Lane and I enjoyed spending time with you the other day and I’m looking forward to “seeing” you again Sunday to continue our adventure. I have a few surprises in store for you…

You clearly get SL, see the potential, and can visualize the educational applications. The Discovery Network ideas you came up with are definitely doable. With help, of course!

You’ve also got ‘the bug’ - and are seeing just how much FUN this environment is. That’s the killer for me - it’s just so engaging. Our challenge is to share the vision and attract more people, because more people means more ideas, more creativity, more interaction, and more learning. Thanks for getting the word out. See you Sunday!

[…] Had the chance to meet Steve Dembo in world the other day, Clare and I spent an hour or so with him, talking about the exciting happenings on our island, we are really building an amazing network of educators … you know someone has the bug when they snap up real estate! Great to have you with us, Steve! Check out his recent podcast about twitter (which I used but don’t anymore) and SL (which is using me … BIGTIME)! -kj- […]

Twitter is certainly one of those things that you have to experience to understand! It is just amazing!

I like what you said on the WOW2 show over at edtechtalk.com two weeks a go — it is about the connection that one feels with those that are in the circle of twitter friends. We become not only part of our learning circle but our living circle as well - and it is almost like crossing paths in this big virtual teacher’s loungue out in the Internet somewhere.

It is really a great experience.

On a personal note — it was incredible meeting you — you are simply amazing! I wonder if Discovery knows how lucky they are!

So - what is the point of Twitter?

Just kidding :) We’ve been exploring the point of Twitter, too. Sometimes I think the simplicity of it just confounds me. “That’s all you do - just tell what you are doing right now?” But take that simple thought into different contexts, and it becomes more powerful. Live twittering a conference, to live twittering a demonstration for a science class, for example. Or even role playing. Darth Vader’s twitter is hialrious (http://twitter.com/darthvader)
