If you are looking for a site where you can both search for and add your own educational videos, podcasts and images, this is a good website that launched recently:

Here is edusafe.us.. It's primary focus is it's safe search engine (for k-12 students) that allows teachers, administrators, etc. to submit sites to the search engine, but we have other plans.. Still a young site, but we are getting popular with the schools for their web searching needs..

WiZiQ is specifically aimed to fill the void: http://www.wiziq.com/

Teachers can build their profile, maintain an availability schedule, upload documents to an online resource library, and add to their income by teaching to a global audience through a virtual classroom technology on WiZiQ.

WiZiQ provides free Web 2.0 services to educators and with tutors having the ability to upload their content free, WiZiQ is geared up to be the "edusafe" free content provider in the coming years.

I have also wondered about the lack of web 2.0 tools aimed at education. I left a message on Wikipedia asking that, if their goal is to provide everyone in the world access to a free encyclopedia, then when is there going to be a wikipedia for kids? I was trying to find RSS feeds for kids and there was only a few I could locate on Yahoo but hardly any more. I think it would be an excellent cause to try and help fund development in this area but can't help think that this will evolve - look at TeacherTube for instance. Still, there's nothing wrong in giving this process a headstart!

I'm working on it :) I'm currently building a video startup for the education space :) I have other ideas, but one at a time for now. Steve, I just e-mailed you to discuss this, we are both in the Chicago area, let's meet.

The problem with Edu-safe sites for Web 2.0 is that educational institutions are stuck in the old, we need to find someone to pay for this mode. They don't have the resources to put together their own UnitedStreaming our Del.icio.us sites. Granted, they could probably find the money if they really wanted to, but finding the time is often the hardest. And then finding enough staff to support using it. It's just too easy, to pay someone to do it, let them set it up, provide training, and then just check to make sure it's running now and then.

WOW! Talk about perfect timing! The ITF's in our county had a "discussion" this afternoon about appropriate sites for students. Some of the ITF's think that all of YouTube should be blocked. I hate that because there are so many great videos on there that my teachers could use in their classroom. We need somewhere we can post educational videos. So, when you get the website idea going for an EduTube, let me know, I'll be one of the first to help!
