Making the Madness educational

Over on Digital Passports, I shared a post about ways to bring March Madness into the classroom. One of the sites I mentioned in the post was Swivel, one of the more interesting 2.0 sites out there for educators.

Well there’s nothing I like more than a company that keeps an eye on what people are saying about it. A few hours after I posted it Chris Grisanti from Swivel left a comment informing me that they already have some data sets that tie in nicely.

Hey, if you aren’t betting, then it isn’t gambling. Nothing wrong with bringing a little Madness into the classroom!

  • What about kids who aren’t into sports? As a kid I wouldn’t have minded, but don’t you think sports should be the domain of physical education – and it should be playing sports?

  • Making Meaning of the Madness is beautifully written, poignant: a MUST READ for bereaved fathers, it will give them insight and understanding of their emotions and will justify their feelings and hopefully give them permission to express them. Bereaved mothers and siblings, as well, will find it sensitive, honest and beneficial. Especially recommended for the newly bereaved, it offers hope and comfort along with practical coping advice.

  • Making Sense of Madness explores the subjective experiences of madness. Using clients’ stories and verbatim descriptions, it argues that the experience of ‘madness’ is an integral part of what it is to be human, and that greater focus on subjective experiences can contribute to professional understandings and ways of helping those who might be troubled by these experiences.

    Hi there,

I truly agree with your point but the kids of this century are already crazy and don’t you think that we need to make the classroom somewhat witty for the kids in order to make them forget madness at all!

  • Hi,

The idea is great but what we need to do is to make the classroom simple and fun place to be just like your own home. What do you think?

  • Madness educational must be a great idea. But, I don’t totally agree with this idea since most kids today have been mad about many things.

  • Totally agree with you Dan. Long gone are the days when kids will sit quietly and listen to your lecture in classroom. Injecting madness into the teaching will spark their passion and probably to a huge extent – identify themselves with this madness.

  • I think the “madness” in question here has been misinterpreted. March Madness is college basketball at its finest. Win or go home, put everything on the line to attain your goals. That attitude transcends sports, it should be implemented in everyday life. Being a part of a team and working towards a common goal are huge lessons that will benefit those young people throughout their lives no matter what path they choose.
