Like a little arithmetic in your fiction?

Personally, I’m a big fan of science fiction, but if you happen to be a ‘numbers’ person, or are looking for some math oriented fiction to integrate into your “Language Arts and Algebra” class, check out MathFiction. They have listed hundreds of books that feature or have significant references to mathematics.

They’re very well organized too, with links to comic books, free online texts, novels, scripts and much more. Many of the works listed don’t have any reviews on them yet, so if you have read any of them with your students, have them add a review to the site!

  • Personally, I’m a big fan of science fiction,
and i like the arithmetic method.

  • Being a math student I always think logical. Note on fiction impress me straight away. Integrating Maths and Science fiction would be a great initiative.

  • I enjoy the scientific method in every endeavor I undertake. I think that combining this scientific approach with mathematics (science fiction) will be very interesting.

  • Does anybody know the story I’m talking about. Apparently people are completely dependent on calculators, but there’s one guy who can do math in his head and he’s regarded as a curiosity.

  • Would love to use that website, however when I clicked on it the page was no longer there. Do you know any other places that might be as good?

  • Math is so much fun! Algebra may not be used in many jobs, but basic math skills are essential. I would love to have the list if anyone was able to get it before the page went away.

  • I’m not a huge fan of science fiction, especially reading it, but I am a big fan of math. People in my math classes at school look at me funny because of how much I enjoy it.

  • Is it strange that I’m not a huge fan of math, never have been, but I do enjoy science fiction? I don’t know if those two normally go together, but it seems like it from this blog.

  • @Penny
I don’t think it’s strange that you are not a huge math fan. I think most people in this country would agree and say the same thing. I think that our country ought to re-prioritize education in mathematics.

  • MathFiction is cool! This can really entertain a rather boring algebra class.
