Time for some change

iTunes 4.9 is now installed and Teach42.com has been uploaded. In fact, if you do a search for Teach42 in iTunes Podcasting area, you even find my feed! Of course, it’s completely broken right now and doesn’t list any ‘casts, but it’s a start! I think it’s time to ditch DirCaster though, mostly because it butchers tags and id3 information. Instead, I’m pointing my Feedburner feed directly to my Wordpress feed. I’ve known that Wordpress 1.5 handles enclosures for a while, but I really liked having my feeds separate so I could keep my blog and podcasts stats separately. However, at this point I think it’s time to combine it all. So for now, I do still have two separate feeds, but they both get their information from the same source. I’ll shut one of them down soon methinks.

Looks like iTunes will also have support for linking websites and images directly from a podcast. In other words, during a podcast you can have links and images pop up or something like that. Perhaps a’la PowerPoint (or should I say Keynote). Downloaded the beta tool for it but haven’t had a chance to try it yet. It’s going to be hard to concentrate during some of these workshops with this going on as well!

UPDATE: Well, worked on it a bit more. It still appears to be broken, but if you click on subscribe it does download my podcast! Small steps forward.

I did also take a look at the podcasting settings and they did a bang up job on them. You can subscribe to a podcast and choose how often it should check for new ones, how many it should download, how many episodes it should keep (FINALLY an auto delete for podcasts) and even choose which podcasts are copied to your iPod. Exactly the sort of stuff we’ve all been waiting for. Happy day!

Steve,

I downloaded the iTunes 4.9 for PC and got it to work on a couple of podcasts. I tried to load yours into it (http://feeds.feedburner.com/Teachfourtwo) but got the old “!” in front of your feed. Is that the wrong URL for your feed?
Please keep the rest of us who didn’t get to go to the NECC updated on all the cool stuff.
