Classrooms put up for adoption

Via The Tech Savvy Educator:

Adopt a Classroom is a non-profit website dedicated to helping educators fund ideas, projects, and classroom activities. Apparently, it was calculated that we as educators spend an average of $800 a year on extra supplies and tools to meet basic classroom needs. While Adopt a Classroom isn’t offering to pay for all of those supplies, they have setup a rather ingenious system to help classrooms out.

What a fantastic idea. My new school can’t be listed unfortunately because they have a run that schools must have been established prior to 2001. Too bad, so sad. I do understand the concerns though. Great site, definitely worth promoting. What a fantastic way to make a direct donation to your educational environment of choice! Grandparents can donate directly to their grand-children’s class.

I would love to see schools in more affluent areas adopt other classrooms in their own city! Maybe collect a dollar or two from each student every week throughout the year and then donate it to a school that’s less fortunate. Could be a great social service project to do as a group.

  • Glad the information was useful. Sorry to hear you won’t be able to put your class up for adoption :(

I’m going to try and get a few classrooms in my building to try it out next year as Michigan spends the same on each student, despite what local tax revenues might be, which means we have many classrooms on need of adoption.
